Maurya Ellen Murphey
My love of art originates in childhood, where I was deeply influenced by the illustrations in children’s books. My grandfather was a southwestern watercolor artist, and whenever we would visit he would invite me to paint with him, and I developed a fondness for watercolor and landscapes.
As a child of two stage actors, I grew up a theater brat and spent the early part of my life moving between Texas, California, Oregon, Washington, and New Mexico. I have retained a deep fondness for many of the places I have lived, much of which peeks through symbolically in my art.
I work in both traditional and digital media, with a heavier leaning towards traditional work, primarily in water color, acrylic, and ink.
